A unique new hotel is opening in a charming old building on the very east side of downtown Dallas. Called
Sova Hotel, it ll go into a three-story structure at 2105 Commerce St., where it will open in May.
Sova which means sleep in Swedish is from Blake and Brandon Shirk, 27-year-old twin brothers with an entrepreneurial bent who ve created an intensely personal concept inspired by their international travels.
The brothers have a passion for traveling, but also wanted to incorporate saving money. Noticing a gap for this market, they decided to do their own, creating high-end minimalist rooms combined with inviting public spaces. ....

The April edition of CultureMap s monthly Where to Eat in Dallas comes a little late in the month but it s jam-packed with just-opened newcomers, from a taqueria on Greenville Avenue to an Asian spot in Uptown to a wine bar in Deep Ellum.

Pronounced Ah-mmh, this French-Indian concept from mother-daughter duo Afifa and Sabrina Nayeb (Laili, 8 Cloves, and JuiceBabe in the Dallas Farmers Market) just opened in the former Hattie s space at 418 N. From the mind behind Dallas Farmers Market favorites 8 Cloves and Laili comes chef Afifa Nayeb’s first full-service concept. Âme, now open in Bishop Arts District, offers powerful, flavorful Indian dishes by way of French cooking techniques.
Nayeb is one of the founders of The Nayeb Group, a Dallas-based real estate company. She has always had a passion for the food and hospitality industry, so nine years ago she decided to study at Le Cordon Bleu, where she found joy in cooking with French techniques.
“My actual degree is for pastry and, at that level, we learn all of the French techniques,” Afifa says. “I think [Âme] will be a very good marriage of two cuisines.” ....

A restaurant at the Dallas Farmers Market that seemed to have all the right ingredients to survive the pandemic eventually succumbed:
Hurdy Gurdy, a casual concept occupying the anchor spot at 900 S. Harwood St., closed in February, a spokesperson for the Dallas Farmers Market confirmed.
The restaurant, which took over the sprawling space previously occupied by Mudhen, was from Charles Nelson and David Herrera, who also own The 2nd Tap, the beer spot in the Market, which is still open. ....
