THE ISSUE Gov. Tom Wolf reported Friday that Pennsylvania ranked 13th in the nation in first doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered; 32.4% of Pennsylvanians had received at least one dose; 1.92 million Pennsylvanians were fully vaccinated; more than 5.4 million vaccines had been administered; and more than 1.6 million seniors had received at least one dose. In the battle to defeat COVID-19, we are making real progress via vaccination. The nation had, by Thursday, âadministered 20 million shots in seven days,â President Joe Biden said Friday. And Pennsylvania is climbing the state rankings for vaccines administered, which is both amazing and surprising, given the commonwealthâs slow and rocky start in the race to vaccinate. ....
More municipalities are joining Manheim Township in calling on Lancaster County to create a health department. On Monday, Denver Borough officials offered informal support to the issue and said they would hold a vote on a formal resolution in the future. Lancaster Countyâs mass vaccination site is on track to hit its daily capacity of giving 6,000 doses each day next week, as the state accelerates its coronavirus vaccine timeline to make all adults eligible by April 19. The Lancaster County mass vaccination center at Park City mall will receive at least 20,000 first doses each week, said Dr. Michael Ripchinski, chief operating officer for Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. Thatâs in addition to its existing second-dose commitments for about 20,000 people per week, which brings the siteâs grand total to approximately 40,000 doses each week, or about 5,700 per day. âItâs very positive and exciting news for the county and the region,â Ripchinski said of the accelerated timeline. âThe Lancaster County vaccination center is well positioned right now to accommodate the rapid increase of those who are eligible.â ....
