Back Bay residents have been trying to persuade the mayor and parks commissioner to restore Copley Square since 2015. The proposed redesign cannot compare with the beauty and appropriateness of the current design of Copley Square (âCopley Square plan final,â Business, April 30).
Today, Copley Square features an elaborate, intricately designed fountain with vertical elements that reflect the tower of Old South Church, so it connects Copley Square to its architectural surroundings beautifully. Tennessee American Water To Begin Water Main Replacement, Mains On James & Ashmore Avenues To Be Replaced

Tennessee American Water is scheduled to begin work this week to replace mains on James and Ashmore Avenues in Red Bank. The project involves replacing pipe installed in the 1920s with 6-inch diameter mains. This project will improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household use and firefighting.
The company’s approximately $320,000 improvement will begin on Ashmore Avenue on Thursday, May 6 to replace the two-inch existing pipe. Work on James Avenue begins when Ashmore Ave is complete and will replace the existing one-inch main. The total project will be finished around mid-July, depending on weather and other construction factors that could affect the schedule. Nine people were arrested on drug-related offenses by the Timmins Police Service after a “coordinated execution of search warrants” at residences on Rea Street South and James Avenue Tuesday evening.
Fentanyl and crack cocaine made up the bulk of the drugs seized at those locations.

Gunfire in Oxnard seriously injures one Thursday night
A shooting in south Oxnard Thursday night left a man in critical condition, authorities said.
At about 8:35 p.m., a passerby reported a victim who didn t look well lying on the sidewalk in the 200 block of James Avenue, according to Cmdr. Luis McArthur of the Oxnard Police Department. The block is in a residential part of the Blackstock North neighborhood, generally east of Saviers Road and south of Channel Islands Boulevard.
Officers found the man unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound, McArthur said. He was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The hospital in Thousand Oaks has a regional trauma center. ....

Oxnard police investigating after man is found shot on sidewalk
OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department is investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital Thursday evening.
It happened around 8:35 p.m. on the 200 block of James Avenue in Oxnard.
Police were called to the scene to check on the well-being of a man on the sidewalk. When they arrived, police located a the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was transported to the hospital where he is currently listed as being in critical condition.
The Oxnard Police Department Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and is investigating. ....
