The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has named Brad Jesop as the winner of the 2021 Outstanding Community Service Award. He and Zurliene Enterprises, the 2021 Business of the Year, will be honored at the annual Chamber Dinner, which has been set for October 4
th. Executive Director Marti Garner says the location and speakers are still being finalized.
Illinois State Police say 21-year-old Richmond, Missouri, resident Rachel G. Paul was hospitalized after a single-car accident on Interstate 64 in Wayne County yesterday afternoon. She reportedly struck a guardrail and came to rest in a wooded area of the median. Her vehicle caught fire, but she was able to escape beforehand with non-life-threatening injuries.
Illinois State Police say 18-year-old Fairfield resident Alexis Sargent was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Clay City Friday afternoon. Preliminary investigative details indicate she was northbound on South Main Street at U.S. 50 when she failed to stop at a stop sign. She was then struck by an eastbound car, driven by 53-year-old Olney resident William Goluba. Goluba and a passenger in Sargent’s car, a 14-year-old male from Fairfield, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sargent was also taken to an area hospital, where she passed away.
