The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has expanded its membership with the addition of JD Wetherspoon, Loungers, the Oakman Group and Drake & Morgan. The BBPA – whose members account for around 90% of beer brewed in Britain and own around 20,000 of the nation’s pubs – stated that the growth in membership and more than £2bn in supportive measures in the Budget highlighted the value in having a strong voice for the pub and brewing sectors. It added that the type of organisations that were now joining represented the transformation of the beer and pub sector into a “modern, innovative and forward-looking industry”. ....

Hospitality, retail and travel stocks all rallied with pubs group JD Wetherspoon up 8.7% to £13.43, budget airline Jet2 rising 7.2% to £13.14 and WH Smith gaining 6% to £17.85. By 4.30pm UK time the S&P 500 was down 0.6% to 3,884.42. Security group G4S slumped 9.8% to 242.6p after private equity firm GardaWorld said it wouldn t raise its 235p offer for the company, cooling hopes of a bidding war. G4S had rejected GardaWorld s offer in favour of 245p bid from Allied Universal. ....
The rumoured reopening of hospitality venues for outdoor use only in April with indoor areas allowed from May has been slammed by the trade, alongside calls for the Government to be honest and open in its approach for a roadmap out of lockdown three. Over the weekend (Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February), various national publications reported the Government was considering plans to allow pubs to serve in external areas from Easter before permitting inside service a month later. Many of those in the trade took to social media to voice their frustration about the impact this will have on the industry alongside claims the Government was leaking this information to test public opinion. ....
