Published on (Photo Courtesy of Navy Athletics) The second season under Joe Amplo has gotten off to a solid start for the Navy Midshipmen, as thet took down Jacksonville 13-6 on Sunday afternoon to move to 2-0 on the season. After seeing Jacksonvilel end the first quarter with a three-goal run from Luke Robinson, Matt Stagnitta, and Brendan McKenna to put them up 4-1 heading into the second and a Jack Dolan goal putting them up 5-2 midway through the second quarter, the Midshipmen kicked it into a different gear. From the 2:34 mark in the second through the 6:02 mark in the third, Navy not only got hot on the offensive end but clamped down on defense. The Midshipmen rattled off nine straight goals, including two from James Flannery to get ahead 11-5 heading into the final quarter of play. Troy Hettinger ended the dry spell for Jacksonville with their only second-half goal early in the fourth. ....
Welcome to March. There’s no turning back now. Blowout Saturday featured a ton of one-sided affairs. We witnessed some Week Two results that didn’t correlate to Week One performance. Teams improve a great deal after their initial outing. March is about improvement. Strive to get better this week as a team, as a unit and as an individual. Same-day bus rides and empty bleachers conspire to snuff your spark. The fire burns from within, take a moment to connect with your why. Early in the year, this poll is more art than science or math. I try not to look at the other polls. Instead, preferring to watch games and talk to coaches. Film don’t lie. Groupthink is never profitable. ....

Thu Feb 25 2021 | Patrick Stevens | College Navy’s 8-5 opening defeat of Mount St. Mary’s provided some unmistakable echoes to the Midshipmen’s debut under Joe Amplo last season, a 9-4 victory over Manhattan. The Mids opened big early leads in both games, were probably sloppier than they would have liked and found a way to get a bunch of players into the game. The most interesting commonality was the emphasis on the ride, which became more effective as last year’s opener unfolded. This time around, Navy forced four consecutive failed clears in the first quarter and held the Mount to 11 of 21 clearing for the game. ....
