Spencer Rees is the US Lacrosse Division I Men s Player of the Week

Tue Apr 27 2021 | Nelson Rice | College PHOTO BY JOHN STROHSACKER Spencer Rees continues to make the most of his opportunity starting for No. 13 Navy this spring. The senior goalie, who before this season saw a combined 61 minutes of game action spread over the previous three years, shined on senior day. In his first appearance against Army in the historic rivalry, Rees made a career-best 19 saves, including 14 in the second half, to stifle the Black Knights’ offense in a 9-4 win. It was the fewest goals Army scored in a game since April 30, 2017. For his performance, Rees is the US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Player of the Week.

Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world: 1.  Rivalries bring out the best in competitors and we were reminded of that this weekend. There’s no better rivalry in sports than Army-Navy and an underdog Navy squad upset No. 8 Army 9-4 behind a dominant performance from goalie Spencer Rees. Mere hours later, an underdog Johns Hopkins team took Maryland to the brink, but the No. 1 Terps stayed undefeated. And the game-winner, of course, from Logan “Ice in his Veins” WISNAUSKAS. @TerpsMLax escape Homewood with a classic 14-13 win. pic.twitter.com/1gHzLZmkqv
