Two blinks later, and the momentum had swung entirely in the other direction.
Thomas McConvey tied the game with 13.7 seconds left in the half, then Vermont’s Tommy Burke won the ensuing faceoff and ripped home a goal 5.3 seconds later to put the Catamounts up by a goal.
Vermont tacked on four more goals in a row to start the third quarter, and UAlbany never fully recovered as the Catamounts pulled away for a 15-10 win on the UMBC campus in Catonsville, Maryland, to earn the program’s first-ever America East title and NCAA tournament berth.

After falling in three of the past four America East title games (2016, 2018, 2019) the Vermont Catamounts have finally gotten over the hump and are NCAA Tournament bound for the first time in program history, taking down UAlbany 15-10 to capture that first-ever conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.
Following a back-and-forth first half which saw the Catamounts take a narrow 8-7 lead after two goals from Thomas McConvey and Tommy Burke within the final 13 seconds of the half, Vermont stepped on the gas in the third quarter and din’t let up until the final buzzer sounded. The Catamounts put in three straight, including two from Liam Limoges, to start the third, extend their run to five, and take a 12-7 lead.

Grant Murphy’s stick, as it had been almost all game, was in the perfect spot to bat down an Albany pass to the middle of the offensive zone. Murphy calmly looked down, located the ball, and kicked it away from two Albany players and toward Syracuse defender Cole Horan. Late in the fourth quarter and up by five goals, Syracuse’s defense still didn’t let down its guard.
