The views were expressed during a meeting of principals with education secretary Rahul Sharma on Wednesday. Heads of more than a dozen prominent schools including Delhi Public School, Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Bishop Westcott, St Thomas and DAV schools attended the meeting. ....

RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: Private schools in Ranchi and Jamshedpur have decided to hike their fees after giving it a miss for a year during the pandemic when the state government requested against it. Although very few schools have implemented the fee hike until now, parents’ bodies slammed the decision and said schools should have been more understanding given that several parents have either faced pay cuts or have lost their jobs during the pandemic. When contacted, Don Bosco Public School, Kokar said they have increased the fees by Rs 1,000 for all students, while principal of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamli, Samarjit Jana said, “Since we had not increased the fees in 2020, there is all likelihood that it will be hiked by 10% this year keeping in view the norms.” He also added that the decision in this regard will be taken in a meeting scheduled in the coming days. ....

Ranchi: The response of parents for admission to nursery classes has been lukewarm this year. Notably, schools are taking admission through the online system since the past 20 days. They are also giving option to the parents to visit campuses and complete the admission process while following Covid protocols. Several schools like the Delhi Public School have also stopped receiving applications. School principal Dr Ram Singh said that his institution would select the students from the applications received on the basis of several factors like proximity of their residences to the school, among others. While refusing to share the exact details of applications this year, the school said that the number of applications has been significantly lower in comparison to previous years. ....
