A night-time favourite in Melaka, the wantan mee in my hometown is unique in that it s complemented by a clear instead of a dark sauce. It has a lighter note and more broth; you can really taste the delicious goodness of the pork jus. The stalls that I frequent also make their own noodles, guaranteeing a springy bite with every order. The wantan mee is a hit and miss with outstation guests, but having grown up with it and now that I’m living in KL, I often crave it and it s an absolute must when I’m back. My go-to stalls include: Hong Sheng in Kampung Bukit Cina (I come here if I want the noodles liberally doused in sauce); Medan Makan Boon Leong on Jalan Bunga Raya (this is the original stall and their noodles still taste as good as ever, if drier than the Bukit Cina version); and Chop Beeng Cheong in Kampung Lapan (a bit of a drive from the city, this stall is run by a descendant of the Bunga Raya stall). ....

A stroll through Kuala Lumpur’s “red-light districts” such as Chow Kit and Jalan Alor is enough to give you a harsh glimpse of it. ....
Champs Elysees, Paris Full disclosure: I haven t walked down Paris s most famous street in a good 10 years or so. There s a reason for that, too. Last time I was there it just seemed to be a strip of high-rent chain stores and touristy, overpriced cafes. Why would you? And it seems as if Parisians agree, going by the recently announced plans to give the whole thing a $395 million makeover, which includes cutting traffic, extending pavements and creating new green space. Plenty of other cities could learn. Instead, try: An actually charming street such as Rue des Barres. Hollywood Blvd, LA ....

AZMAN GHANI/The Star PETALING JAYA: Food business owners in the Klang Valley anticipate slower business during the movement control order but they are optimistic that things will improve soon. As the MCO entered its second day yesterday, burger vendor Muhammad Basir Abu Bakar, 41, said his business had slowed down by about 50% but he feels it will improve. “While people prefer to cook at home during the MCO, they eventually will want something different, ” he said. KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 Whenever I get a break, I like to wander down Jalan Alor to an old favourite of mine. In the morning, that street famous for its night eats is quiet. I ve been eating at Sister Drunken Chicken Noodle for many years. The stall was started by two sisters. They were colourful characters who would serenade customers with songs from Chinese opera as they worked. Previously they offered a variety of noodles and porridge. ....
