ISMAIL SAMA, a cattle herder from Nana Dinara village in Gujarat’s Kutch district who went missing in 2008 and was later found in a Pakistani jail, was released on Friday following an order by the Islamabad High Court on January 14.
Ismail reached the Indian Red Cross Society’s branch in Amritsar after Pakistani officers handed him over to Indian authorities.
Nana Dinara village is located near Khavda, around 50 km from on the Indo-Pakistan border in Bhuj taluka of Kutch district.
Ismail went missing on August 28, 2008, and his wife Kamabai believes that her husband lost his way and inadvertently crossed over to the Pakistan side of the border or was abducted by Pakistani border guards. ....

A cattle herder from Gujarat’s Kutch district, who had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan in 2008 and was arrested there on charges of spying, has finally returned to India after languishing in the neighbouring country’s jails, officials said.
Ismael Sama, 60, from Nana Dinara village in Kutch, located some 60 km from the Pakistan border, had mistakenly crossed over to Pakistan while grazing his cattle.
He was arrested and kept in the jails of that country before he was released two days back following the Islamabad High Court’s order on a plea moved by the Indian High Commission there. ....

CHENNAI: A maturing ecosystem and tailwinds on the digital front due to Covid have expanded the ‘deep technology’ component of the Indian startup ecosystem. Deep tech includes the use of emerging and new-age tech such as AI, machine learning (ML), augmented & virtual reality, blockchain, robotics and 3D printing.
At 19%, now nearly one in five tech startups are leveraging deep-tech solutions for their businesses. The pool of deep-tech ventures is expanding at a five-year compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41% faster than the overall ecosystem, a study said. ....

ARAB ALIAS Arbas Misribhai Jat, a 60-year-old Pakistani national being held as a detainee at Bhuj’s Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) after his arrest in 2013, died at a hospital at Bhuj town in Kutch district Monday following complaints of breathlessness. Officers said Jat also suffered from a mental illness. The sexagenarian is the fourth Pakistani national lodged at JIC to have died within a nearly two-month period.
Officers at the JIC said Jat seemed to suffer from breathlessness late Sunday evening. “He was rushed to GK General Hospital at 10.30 pm Sunday with complaints of difficulty in breathing. He died around 3 am Monday while undergoing treatment at the hospital,” police inspector MB Jani, who is in-charge of JIC, told The Indian Express Tuesday. ....
