Mike Jurusz is worried about the summer.
As owner and executive chef at Chef Mike’s Atlantic Bar & Grill in South Seaside Park, he said he can’t find anyone to hire. He blames his staffing troubles on expanded unemployment benefits and stimulus payments.
“It’s impossible to get help right now,” he said, adding that all the businesses in his neighborhood have “help wanted” signs.
Jurusz has about 15 employees who work for the restaurant throughout the year, but staff is ramped up to about 60 for the summer season, he said. ....

Roadside food vending has been at the centre of TT s culinary culture for as long as one could remember. Doubles, pies, barbecue, and in recent history gyros, satisfy cravings, whether on the way to work or out liming at night.
But the industry is volatile. Crime, the price of goods and the fact that the street food sector is not regularised adds to the high risks involved, and, with the recent covid19 restrictions many vendors who operate on a day-to-day basis, may fall by the wayside. ....

Pittsfield Education Foundation "Food for Thought" Fundraiser


The Pittsfield Education Foundation has been forced to get creative with its fundraiser efforts this year.
The PEF is a grassroots community organization founded and comprised of local educators and community activists who seek to provide opportunities for students and teachers to achieve their greatest potential. Like many other non-profits, the group has been forced to pivot its means of raising money due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
In years past the group has hosted beer and wine tastings, dine to donates, and other events that bring people together in large groups. This year, in keeping in a dine to donate theme, has teamed up with local food purveyor KJ Nosh to create Nosh Boxes . Think Dine to Donate, but take out. ....

Pittsfield: Gourmet dinner boxes to aid education fund


The Pittsfield Education Foundation has partnered with KJ Nosh Catering for Food for Thought, a takeout dine-to-donate fundraising event for the foundation. Nosh Boxes are dinners for two containing an assortment of hors d’oeuvre style cuisine prepared by Chef Mike Mongeon.
Two box menus are available including a vegetarian/gluten-free option. Orders are being accepted through Sunday, May 9, at tinyurl.com/yce54kfw. 
Pickup will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, at KJ Nosh Catering, 339 Tyler St., at the corner of Tyler and Pine streets. Face masks are required. ....
