Pacers can't hang on in fourth quarter, fall to Shiners

It’s been a tough year for coach Travis Wrightsman’s Switzerland County Pacer varsity basketball team, and the squad’s string of tough luck continued last Saturday afternoon in a tough loss to Rising Sun.
Holding a lead for three quarters, the Pacers went into the final period with a 10-point lead, 36-26 but couldn’t hold it, and fell by a final score of 48-44.
The Pacers came out hot, with Nate Geyman opening the scoring with a three-pointer and Mason Covington followed that with an inside bucket for the 5-0 early lead.
Chris Bowne got Rising Sun on the board with a three-pointer, but the Pacers responded with two freethrows and a three-pointer by Ben Hicks to stretch the lead to seven. ....

Hicks scores 14, Pacers fall to Clarksville

The Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity basketball team took to the court last Thursday, February 4th, with a home game against Clarksville. The game was designated as Senior Night, and prior to the beginning of the contest, seniors Zach Stout, Nate Geyman, and Mason Covington were honored.
The game itself got out of control early, as Clarksville opened up an 18-5 lead after the first period, but Switzerland County battled the entire way.
In that first quarter, Switzerland County got baskets from Stout and Ben Hicks, and Bryce Wrightsman also added a freethrow.
The Generals got early scoring from Jaren Starks and Dakota Capps, each of whom posted seven points in the opening stanza. ....

Pacer varsity suffers three losses in holiday JCIT tourney

The Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity basketball team participated in the Jefferson County Invitational Tournament last Tuesday and Wednesday, and although the Pacers came out 0-3 on the tourney, Coach Travis Wrightsman said that his troops battled the entire session.
“Overall, we struggled in the tournament,” Coach Wrightsman said. “Bryce Turner and Ben Hicks were both out with injuries in the Danville game. We struggled to make shots in all three games. I thought our kids played hard and competed in the tournament.”

The opening round game was tough enough, drawing Class 3A #9 Danville, but without key starters Turner and Hicks, the Pacers were undermanned from the outset. ....

Pacers open and close with big runs to defeat Crothersville

Led by a big first quarter from Bryce Wrightsman and capped by a big fourth quarter from Ben Hicks, the Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity basketball team earned its second win of the young season in a rare Monday night contest with Crothersville.
Thanks to nine first period points from Wrightsman, including a three-pointer and three field goals, the Pacers jumped out to a 21-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
Freshman Jacob Williams also had an outstanding opening period, hitting a three-pointer to go along with a pair of field goals and a freethrow for eight first quarter points. Bryce Turner and Hicks also had buckets in the opening stanza. ....

Turner’s 23 not enough as Pacers fall to Lawrenceburg
The Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity basketball team was supposed to open its season against Lawrenceburg on Tuesday, November 24th.
The Tigers advancement in the IHSAA state football tournament caused that game to be delayed, and it was finally played this past Saturday night.
The young Pacer charges held firm throughout the contest and kept battling, but the veteran Lawrenceburg team slowly pulled away throughout the game, and won by a final score of 52-37.
The first period was closely played, with Lawrenceburg outscoring Switzerland County by just a 13-10 margin. ....
