The City Planning Commission gave a positive recommendation for the college’s land development plan for the music hall to be built at 334 Basin St. Recommending the land development plan with a 4-0-2 vote were: Harry Sechler, commission chairman; Chelsea Rawson, Cindi Eyster, Tony Nardi and Naomi Brown. Commission members Chip Plankenhorn and William Rischar were absent. Two other members, Christopher Keiser and Matthew Vanaskie, abstained in the vote due to their conflicts of interest on the project. ....

SUN-GAZETTE FILE PHOTO The City of Williamsport’s controller acknowledged Monday that she was aware of an investigation taking place into River Valley Transit’s handling of federal and state grants between 2009 and 2019. “It is still being investigated, but that is all I know,” Controller Margaret Woodring said Monday after reports of the investigation surfaced late last week. “I’ve not been contacted by the state at all.” Attempts to reach the offices of Attorney General Josh Shapiro were not successful. City employees said Shapiro agents are focused on grant use and lumping together of grant resources and improper accounting. ....
An incumbent Williamsport City Councilman seeks the Democratic nomination in the May 18 primary election. Dave Banks, 37, of 1306 Hepburn St. filled the vacancy left by former Councilman Derek Slaughter. Slaughter ran a successful campaign to become mayor and took the oath of office in January 2020. Banks was appointed to finish out Slaughter’s term and has been a councilman who said he has a passion to grow the city from an economic standpoint. “That is why I am running for a four-year term until 2025,” he said. If able to be nominated and retain his seat in the fall election, Banks said he will continue efforts to support economic development, responsibly oversee the city budget, modernize the government’s internet presence and improve infrastructure and pedestrian access throughout Williamsport. ....
