This summer, we re offering virtual and in-person options for our summer camps and Young Leaders Institute sessions for high school students.
In a world more globally connected than ever before, leaders need to be well prepared with the right knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors to be successful. Asia Society s Young Leaders Institute (YLI) is a week-long summer program for high school students that promotes global competence, elevates leadership skills, and connects students from across diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Since launching in 2016, the Young Leaders Institute has provided new perspectives and strengthened skills for over 300 students. The Institute s sixth year explores some of the most timely, relevant global issues for young leaders facing a world transformed by COVID-19. ....

Antioch University Los Angeles’ Education Department is honored to announce Pam Muñoz Ryan as the 2021 Horace Mann Upstanders Book Award recipient for Mañanaland (Scholastic Press).

The Horace Mann Upstanders Book Award honors children’s literature that best exemplifies the ideals of social action and encourages young readers to become agents of change themselves by standing up to injustice. The Horace Mann Upstanders Book Award will be formally presented to Muñoz Ryan on May 20, 2021, at the 14th Annual Upstanders Book Award Ceremony. Springfield celebrates Black History Month with flag raising

SPRINGFIELD For the past 35 years the Black American Heritage flag has been raised outside City Hall on the first day of February.
“Rain, snow, sleet or shine we are going to raise the flag,” said state Rep. Bud L. Williams, D-Springfield, who organizes the event with his wife, Gloria Williams. “We have been out here in blizzards, snow storms, 15 below zero, wind storms.”
Monday was no exception, even with the arrival of a nor’easter expected to drop several inches of snow.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s event was limited to a small group of public officials, unlike past years when it has been open to the public. Focus Springfield livestreamed the ceremony on the Springfield Office of Communications Facebook page. ....

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Bernadette DiPino has resigned as chief of police for the Sarasota Police Department, effective 5 p.m. Friday.
The announcement came after a complaint was filed with the City of Sarasota over comments Chief Bernadette DiPino made about a homeless man.
The City released information on the anonymous complaint, saying that Chief DiPino made the comments at a public event where a known individual with documented mental illnesses began mocking the officers and singers at the event. ....
