On Monday, the threat saw police search two ferries and the Picton ferry terminal, forcing passengers to disembark and face long delays. Specialist police staff arrived by helicopter from Wellington to search both the Interislander and Bluebridge ferries in Picton about 10.35am, 2½ hours after passengers were first asked to disembark. Marlborough area commander Inspector Simon Feltham said nothing “of significance” had been found and ferry crossings resumed on Monday afternoon.

Bluebridge passengers are returned to the terminal by bus, and prepare to board after the police inspection finishes. Feltham acknowledged that the incident caused “considerable disruption and distress for many”.

A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged threat directed at the Cook Strait ferry services in Picton today.
In a statement Marlborough area commander inspector Simon Feltham said charges were still being considered, however the 33-year-old is expected to appear in the Blenheim District Court tomorrow. I would like to acknowledge our Specialist Search Group staff who flew from Wellington to complete an extensive search of both the terminal buildings and ferries, and the investigation team who identified and located the alleged offender.

Police searched Interislander and Bluebridge vessels and terminals in Picton today, finding nothing.
Marlborough Area Commander Inspector, Simon Feltham says he appreciates there s been considerable disruption and distress.
The man is expected to appear in the Blenheim District Court tomorrow.
Ferry services have resumed.
