A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged threat directed at the Cook Strait ferry services in Picton today.
In a statement Marlborough area commander inspector Simon Feltham said charges were still being considered, however the 33-year-old is expected to appear in the Blenheim District Court tomorrow. I would like to acknowledge our Specialist Search Group staff who flew from Wellington to complete an extensive search of both the terminal buildings and ferries, and the investigation team who identified and located the alleged offender.
Feltham acknowledged that the incident caused “considerable disruption and distress for many”.

Police arrive at the ferry terminal after bomb threat was made on Monday morning. Erin Paul was having her breakfast on board the Straitsman when she was told by staff that all passengers would have to disembark. “They got everybody off the ship, and they did a roll call. We were put on buses, but we weren t told where we were going,” Paul said. They were taken to the Picton Yacht Club Hotel and had been told they would wait there until the emergency was over.
Press Release – New Zealand Police
Police have arrested eight people and disrupted plans to import hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into the country from Mexico.
This morning Police, along with New Zealand Customs Service, carried out search warrants at eleven properties throughout the wider Bay of Plenty, Northland and Auckland areas as part of Operation Tarpon.
The operation, run by the National Organised Crime Group (NOCG), has targeted key players of a drug syndicate operating in New Zealand with links to a Mexican cartel.
It’s alleged those involved conspired to import a large quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine into New Zealand via shipping containers.
