Lubbock Votes To Become Largest 'Sanctuary City For The Unborn' In U.S.

After a citizen’s vote, Lubbock is now the largest so-called “sanctuary city for the unborn” in the country. The city is the first to pass an ordinance like this that actually has a health center that offers abortions.
Proposition A passed with 62% of votes on Saturday. Over 21,000 people voted in favor of the ordinance and 12,860 voted against it. In total, 34,260 Lubbockites voted on the measure, according to the Lubbock County Elections Office.
In mostly conservative and religious Lubbock, churches are likely one of the reasons why the ordinance passed.
Texas Tech University Political Science Professor Tim Nokken explained that, while tax-exempt churches aren’t supposed to support a specific political candidate, they can take a stance on issues. And many did this election. ....

Texas City Becomes ‘Sanctuary City for the Unborn’ Following Vote
A city in Texas voted on Saturday to become a “sanctuary city for the unborn” after its residents approved an ordinance that outlawed abortion within the city.
Sixty-two percent of voters in Lubbock, a city of about 250,000 people in northwest Texas, backed the measure while 38 percent voted against it, according to unofficial results from the Lubbock County Elections Office.
Part of the ordinance reads: “It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Lubbock, Texas.” It also renders abortion “at all stages of pregnancy” an “act of murder” with a medical exception. ....

Lubbock election results: Voters approve ordinance to outlaw abortion


Voters in the City of Lubbock approved the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance that seeks to make it illegal to perform an abortion inside city limits.
The ordinance that the Lubbock City Council called unconstitutional and unenforceable was put to a public vote through a petition process. The ordinance was the only item on the City of Lubbock s May 2021 election ballot, and it passed on Saturday.
A total of 34,260 votes were cast in the election: 21,400 votes were in favor of the ordinance and 12,860 votes were against. About 62.5% of the votes were in favor of the ordinance.
The Church of Jesus Christ banded together, stepped up to their role, their God-given role, and said we re not going to let babies be killed in our city, Jim Baxa of West Texas for Life said Saturday evening after the results were released.
