Construction is underway on the new police headquarters in downtown Lubbock.
The headquarters is yet another component in the city s Public Safety Improvements Project, which was approved by the city council in 2017. The $60 million Public Safety Improvements Project includes three new police patrol division stations, a new municipal court, police property warehouse and the new headquarters.
The patrol division station located near 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is expected to be occupied next month. The others one in south Lubbock near 140th Street and Indiana Avenue and the other in north Lubbock on Erskine Street near Frankford Avenue will open later this year.

School districts in Lubbock are including pay increases for teachers in their adopted budgets.
In June, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget that includes a 1% pay increase for all employees. The starting salary for a teacher at LISD will increase from $45,000 to $46,000 next school year. We re satisfying some needs that are important to so many of us, Zach Brady, president of the board, said about the budget before it was approved. Certainly we d like to be able to do more than the 1% on the salary side, but quite frankly, I wasn t sure there was going to be room for that. So I really appreciate the work that (Shay Jennings, the director of finance and budget) and her team have done.
