Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s 2020 Matching Gifts Program donated a combined $400,000 from the credit union and its members to over 280 charitable organizations this holiday season, from local food pantries to shelters for the homeless.
Among those charitable groups in New London and Windham counties to benefit from the combined giving from Charter Oak’s Matching Gifts Program were the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation in New London, the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, St. Vincent de Paul Place in Norwich, the Friends of Assisi Food Pantry in Danielson and the Windham Region No Freeze Project in Willimantic. ....

Charter Oak gift match raises $400,000 for local organizations
Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s matching gifts program raised a total of $400,000 for local nonprofits in 2020. This is the third consecutive year the Board of Directors has elected to double the credit union’s match to $200,000, following a large number of member donations.
The program, which runs from August to November, matches donations to charities made by credit union members.
This year’s campaign matched 970 donations to 283 organizations, including the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, and St. Vincent de Paul Place. The credit union and its members have donated nearly $1.6 million through the program since 2016. ....

The Day - Waterford police look to avoid confrontation during cleanup of homeless camp - News from southeastern Connecticut

Waterford Cleanup crews contracted by the Town of Waterford continued work on Thursday to clear out a wooded piece of town property used for years as a homeless encampment.
The town had set Dec. 10 as the goal to have everyone housed, items removed and the former camp cleaned up. Police, however, continue attempts to negotiate with a man who has refused to leave and who argues that the outdoors is safer than a shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adam, who had declined to provide his last name, said he intended to maintain the camp behind Charter Oak Federal Credit Union off Boston Post Road for what he expects will be a group of new homeless once a pandemic eviction moratorium ends on Jan. 1, 2021. ....

Through its Matching Gifts Program, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union and its members have donated $400,000 to 283 charities and nonprofits this year, Charter Oak announced in a news release.
The program runs from August to November every year and matches all qualified donations that members make to nonprofit charities. This year, the program matched 970 donations made to 283 organizations, which locally include the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center and St. Vincent de Paul Place.
Since the program s founding in 2016, the combined giving of the credit union and its members to charities and nonprofits in eastern Connecticut has totaled nearly $1.6 million, according to Charter Oak. ....
