Saginaw Public School District agrees to buy former Learn 2 Earn Academy building Updated 3:17 PM; Facebook Share SAGINAW, MI - The Saginaw Public Schools Board of Education has agreed to purchase the former Saginaw Learn to Earn Academy building, located at 1000 Tuscola St. The board approved the purchase agreement in a closed session at its Wednesday, April 21 meeting. The district intends to use the building as a new home for high school students who are part of the Saginaw Success Academy, a program that helps at-risk kids graduate, said board President Charles Coleman. The Learn to Earn Academy closed in mid-2020 after 15 years of helping dropouts and those at risk of dropping out continue their education. It enabled 383 students to receive their high school diplomas over its lifetime, according to previous MLive reporting. Richard Burmeister resigned from the board after 29 years effective Tuesday, Dec. 31. An alumnus of Freeland High School, Burmeister worked for decades as a caseworker and later administrator with the Michigan Department of Health and Human services. His work in the area, including Saginaw and Midland counties, instilled in him the importance of education and prompted him to serve the board of the ISD and Freeland Community School District, according to the release. ....
