Voters approve Freeland School District’s sinking fund millage proposal Updated 11:52 PM; Facebook Share FREELAND, MI - Voters in portions of Bay, Saginaw and Midland counties approved a millage proposal for the Freeland Community School District A sinking fund millage was on the ballot for voters in select townships in the counties covered by the Freeland Community School District during the Tuesday, May 4 election. The measure passed by a count of 1,025 yes votes to 902 no votes. According to the ballot, Freeland’s sinking fund millage proposal will levy up to 2 mills over 8 years on residents within the district and roughly $890,000 in 2021. ....

MLive File Photo.MLive.com/The Saginaw News Facebook Share SAGINAW COUNTY, MI - The president of the Saginaw Intermediate School District’s Board of Education has retired after nearly three decades of service, according to a news release from the district. Richard Burmeister resigned from the board after 29 years effective Tuesday, Dec. 31. An alumnus of Freeland High School, Burmeister worked for decades as a caseworker and later administrator with the Michigan Department of Health and Human services. His work in the area, including Saginaw and Midland counties, instilled in him the importance of education and prompted him to serve the board of the ISD and Freeland Community School District, according to the release. ....
