Sallie Mae and Thurgood Marshall College Fund Launch $3 Million Scholarship Program 2017 White House Summit on HBCUs (Image: WhiteHouse.gov) The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has announced a partnership with the Sallie Mae Fund to launch a new initiative that will meet the needs of minority students and those from marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+, low-income, and first-generation college students. The Sallie Mae Fund, which is the charitable arm of Sallie Mae®, has partnered with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to launch a new $3 million scholarship program. The Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program is slated to provide $1 million a year for the next three years to help students access, as well as complete college, and help provide the funds for graduate school. Nearly 900 students will receive scholarships through the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. ....

Delaware Business Now DSU gets a $1 million grant from Longwood The Longwood Foundationawarded $1 million to Delaware State University to support the university’s acquisition of Wesley College. The award will support ongoing transition costs, including personnel and a comprehensive plan for aligning the two institutions’ academic programs. The university announced plans last summer to acquire Wesley College and is currently moving toward completing the transaction by July 2021. The deal has several contingencies attached to it, including approval from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the regional accrediting body for both institutions. “In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and all its inherent uncertainties, as well as the continued unrest in our country over systemic racism, there is a case to be made that a University like ours should focus its attention on navigating a rapidly changing American landscape,” said President Dr. Tony Allen ....
