Bent Water Festival
On Saturday, July 31 from 4 to 9 p.m. in partnership with Bent Water Brewing, the town will be holding a day at the beach with live music, Swampscott Yacht Club and beer and hard seltzer from Bent Water Brewing. Musicians include The Kevin Farren Band, The Navigators, and Birdface. The entry fee is $5 and will go toward fundraising for maintaining the historic Swampscott Fish House. The rain date will be Aug. 1.
Regulations governing balloons in Swampscott? They may be in the town’s future.
Discussions about balloons among town officials are afoot: A bulleted item “restricting balloons discussions” appeared on the Swampscott Board of Health’s agenda for a July 7 public meeting that ultimately got canceled.
Meanwhile, the Swampscott Conservation Commission has posted an agenda that lists “discussion of use of balloons on town conservation land” for its public meeting on Thursday, July 22.
“The Conservation Commission will be taking up possibly sending a letter to pertinent departments in the schools and in the town about not using balloons on conservation land,” said Toni Bandrowicz, vice chair of the commission and president of the Swampscott Conservancy.

Louie Gallo, an erudite and passionate Swampscott historian whose encyclopedic knowledge of town history made him a local fixture, died in a house fire in Saugus on Saturday morning. He was 78.
“Considered our town historian, he was a fountain of knowledge, a well-known, well-respected and larger-than-life character,” Angela Warren Ippolito, a former Swampscott Historical Commission member, told The Swampscott Reporter on Sunday morning. “He was my friend and colleague for many years, and I am devastated that he was a victim of such a tragedy.
