THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala higher education minister K T Jaleel on Tuesday resigned from the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet days after the state Lokayukta held that he had abused his position as a public servant to obtain a favour for a relative. Jaleel has sent his resignation to the chief minister and it has been forwarded to the governor, sources in the chief minister s office told . High court of Kerala KOCHI: Ordering for allowing a transgender to join National Cadet Corps (NCC), the high court has directed for amending the law to include transgenders in NCC. Justice Anu Sivaraman issued the directive after considering a petition filed by Hina Haneefa, a student of University College in Thiruvananthapuram. The court said the fact that NCC Act does not recognize the third gender or that detailed guidelines are to be introduced for the integration of persons of third gender into NCC cannot be a justification for denying entry for the petitioner. Ruling that denial of enrolment to NCC is unsustainable, the court said the petitioner is entitled to participate in the selection process and to be enrolled in NCC if she is successful. ....
A preliminary examination of the boats revealed the crew were using unauthorized communication equipment and were carrying narcotics. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Coast Guard intercepted three Sri Lankan boats carrying narcotic drugs and had entered the country’s territorial waters on Sunday. The boats Akarsha Duwa, Chathu Rani 03, and Chathu Rani 08 had a total of 19 Sri Lankan nationals in them. The Coast Guard ship Varaha that was on patrol duty intercepted the boats at 8.45am, around seven nautical miles off Minicoy Island. A preliminary examination of the boats revealed that the crew were using unauthorized communication equipment and were carrying narcotics. When interrogated, the skipper of one of the boats admitted they had contraband on board, and that they threw it into the sea. ....
