IUPUC honors area nursing preceptors at annual meeting

COLUMBUS, Ind. – IUPUC’s Division of Health Sciences Advisory Council hosted its annual meeting virtually via zoom last Wednesday.
The event brings together community partners to acknowledge outstanding performances of IUPUC Nursing Student scholarship recipients as well as clinical site preceptor of the year recipients.
The Preceptor of the Year Award recognizes the integral part preceptors play in nursing education at IUPUC, and is given annually to volunteer instructors from each of the clinical partner hospitals in a six-county area who work with IUPUC students.
The 2020 Preceptor Award winners include:

Clemson Starts Play at NCAA Regional on Monday
Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team will begin competition in the NCAA Columbus (Ohio) Regional at The Scarlet Course on Monday. Clemson is one of 18 teams in the field, and the top six after three days of stroke play (May 10-12) will advance to the NCAA Finals at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 21-26.
The Columbus Regional is one of four regional sites that include 18 teams each. LSU, Stanford and Louisville serve as hosts of the other three regionals.
Clemson is the number-eight seed in the regional that also includes number-one seed Duke and number-three seed Virginia from the ACC. This is the sixth time in seven opportunities that Clemson has earned a regional bid. Last year’s tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. ....

Vanderbilt baseball is back at the Hawk tonight to open a three-game weekend series against Alabama, looking to bounce back from losing last weekend’s series at Florida and dropping a midweek game to Louisville. Huskers Ready for Columbus Regional

The Nebraska women’s golf team makes its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2008, when the Huskers compete at the Columbus Regional, May 10-12.
The 18-team event opens Monday with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. (CT) on the 6,358-yard, par-72 layout at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course. The three-day, 54-hole event that features a five-count-four scoring format continues on Tuesday with the second round again at 7 a.m. (CT). The tournament concludes Wednesday with final-round tee times starting at 7 a.m. (CT).
Live scoring for the tournament will be available at GolfStat.com.
Kate Smith, a fifth-year senior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., leads the Huskers into NCAA Tournament play after capturing Nebraska’s first-ever Big Ten individual title. Smith, who won NU’s first conference individual crown since All-American Sarah Sasse in 2003, was also recently added to the U.S. Arnold Palmer Cup Team. DUI suspect arrested after threatening off duty CPD officer with a knife

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a Hamilton County man on three felony charges Wednesday evening after he reportedly held a knife outside of his car’s window while tailgating an off-duty police officer who was driving his personal vehicle.
On-duty police initiated a traffic stop just after 7:30 p.m., near U.S. 31 and Washington Street. The driver was identified as Jeffrey Castetter, 26, of Noblesville.
Officers say the suspect had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He allegedly failed several field sobriety tests and refused to take a certified chemical intoxication test, so CPD applied for and received a search warrant for a blood draw at Columbus Regional Health. ....
