Cape Cod Healthcare: COVID pandemic cost patient lives, hospital jobs

COVID-19 survivor starts teal-heart campaign to celebrate vaccinations

Like many other people eager to lift spirits during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Claudine Wrighter, of Pocasset, put red and blue hearts in her windows to support essential workers, first responders and health care professionals. Wrighter also propped a masked teddy bear the size of a preschooler in her front dining room window, where children passing by on teddy bear scavenger hunts could see the bear and add it to their counts. Spotting the bear displays was the big buzz,” Wrighter said of the worldwide trend last year popularized on social media. Wrighter, a 45-year-old COVID-19 survivor who spent nine days in Falmouth Hospital last spring, has started her own window-display campaign to signal the arrival of vaccines and, hopefully, the end of the pandemic.

Cape Cod Healthcare held unpublished COVID vaccine clinic for patients

HYANNIS – Diane and Lucien Poyant of Hyannisport didn’t know there was a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on the grounds of the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis until they drove past it Monday. After calling a number at Cape Cod Healthcare, which is hosting the clinic, they got an appointment for Tuesday morning and joined a long line of cars snaking down Scudder Avenue past the West End Rotary. The Poyants, both 83, said they were thrilled and relieved to stumble upon the opportunity to get their first shots.  “We’ve been trying everything CVS and all that stuff,” Lucien said. “We can’t thank (Cape Cod Healthcare) enough.”
