COVID-19 survivor starts teal-heart campaign to celebrate vaccinations


Like many other people eager to lift spirits during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Claudine Wrighter, of Pocasset, put red and blue hearts in her windows to support essential workers, first responders and health care professionals.
Wrighter also propped a masked teddy bear the size of a preschooler in her front dining room window, where children passing by on teddy bear scavenger hunts could see the bear and add it to their counts.
Spotting the bear displays was the big buzz,” Wrighter said of the worldwide trend last year popularized on social media.
Wrighter, a 45-year-old COVID-19 survivor who spent nine days in Falmouth Hospital last spring, has started her own window-display campaign to signal the arrival of vaccines and, hopefully, the end of the pandemic. ....

Williams thought she, along with her husband and daughter, had dodged a bullet.
“We all got it,” said Williams, 56. “Not only were we not hospitalized, we never even had a fever.”
But 11 months later, she has never fully recovered.
“Some days I can’t walk up the stairs. I can’t catch my breath.
Her sense of taste and smell have come back, but not completely.
“Peanut butter ice cream tastes like cigarette smoke to me. It’s the weirdest thing,” Williams said. Some other foods also taste strange but she worries most about not being able to smell gas since her family has a gas stove. ....
