A new survey by the Greater Boston Food Bank has found that Massachusetts saw a 55% increase in food insecurity from 2019 to 2020 and the pandemic is largely to blame. 1.6 million adults in Massachusetts are struggling to get enough to eat, with people of color and families with children disproportionately impacted. We talk to Catherine D Amato, CEO of GBFB, to discuss this new data and the gaps in access to food security.

Grant helps Damien's Place expand food distribution

Damien’s Place Food Pantry received a more than $9,000 grant from the Greater Boston Food Bank to expand its ability to efficiently serve more people.
The grant is part of the Greater Boston Food Bank’s efforts to expand the emergency food network in the region in response to the covid-19 pandemic.
The grant will fund an expansion of the pantry’s physical location, and a lift-gate system to help volunteers load up trucks without having to lift goods up high. ....

Grant doubles Damien’s Place’s food-distribution capacity in Wareham

WAREHAM – The Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, recently provided a $9,264 capacity building grant to The Family Pantry, Damien’s Place in Wareham to expand its ability to efficiently and effectively serve more people. This grant is part of GBFB’s on-going investment in building the capacity of the emergency food network in the region in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This investment will build and strengthen Damien’s capacity to distribute nutritious food to people in need in the Southcoast area. These resources will fund a physical location expansion to handle the increased need for more space for food and an area for pre-packaging bags for clients. The truck needed a lift gate system. Currently, volunteers lift everything up high to get it on the truck. These funds also allow for a much-needed update ....
