Grant doubles Damien’s Place’s food-distribution capacity in Wareham Wicked Local WAREHAM – The Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, recently provided a $9,264 capacity building grant to The Family Pantry, Damien’s Place in Wareham to expand its ability to efficiently and effectively serve more people. This grant is part of GBFB’s on-going investment in building the capacity of the emergency food network in the region in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This investment will build and strengthen Damien’s capacity to distribute nutritious food to people in need in the Southcoast area. These resources will fund a physical location expansion to handle the increased need for more space for food and an area for pre-packaging bags for clients. The truck needed a lift gate system. Feeding the Hungry in Wareham [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY] For more than 25 years, needy individuals and families in the Wareham area have continued to receive food supplies from Damien s Place, a food pantry located on Cranberry Highway. The food pantry has been open two days a week during the pandemic, and Executive Director Jackie Arsenault says the demand for food has almost doubled during that time. Arsenault says the pantry s 70 volunteers are busy six days a week, picking up food donations, unloading deliveries from the Greater Boston Food Bank and others, and opening the pantry to those who need help.
