'Stop taking drugs': Chief Judge's advice for mum

Premium Content Subscriber only A MUM has been told by Queensland’s Chief Judge to get off drugs because her ‘nonsense’ kept resulting in her getting into trouble with the law. New drug related convictions mean the Gatton woman again breached a suspended jail sentence imposed for a trafficking offence in 2017. Chief Judge Brian Devereaux SC warned Melissa Francis this week that her drug use would inevitably result in her going back to jail. Melissa Leanne Francis, 36, pleaded guilty to breaching a suspended sentence at Ipswich District Court. Office of Director of Public Prosecutions legal officer Chantel Phillips said Francis had been sentenced by an Ipswich judge in September 2018 for the drug trafficking committed in 2017.

Woman buys cigarettes, steals three charity cash tins to pay taxi

Premium Content Subscriber only A Lockyer woman said she stole three charity donation tins from a supermarket because she had no money to pay for a taxi, despite just buying cigarettes. The Brave Companion Dog Rescue and Cancer Council tins at Laidley IGA were pinched by Melissa Lynette Dixon on April 28. The 34-year-old put the first tin under her jumper when staff were distracted by her cigarette order about 11.46am. She exited the store with the tin but returned to the supermarket 35 minutes later and once again nicked a further two tins by stuffing them under her jumper. In the Gatton Magistrates Court on May 24, police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton said CCTV footage was used to identify Dixon.

Woman stuffs $67 porterhouse steak down top

Premium Content Subscriber only Stealing a $67 porterhouse steak from the supermarket was a matter of need rather than greed for a Gatton woman. Madeline Harmony Cain selected a porterhouse steak from the meat department at Gatton IGA before putting it down her top and exiting the store on March 15. She was identified on CCTV and police spoke with her a week later where the 27-year-old said she probably stole some meat . Police prosecutor sergeant Al Windsor told the Gatton Magistrates Court on May 10 that Cain had accompanied her partner to court. Cain pleaded guilty to one charge to stealing, but also pleaded guilty to one charge one charge of possessing dangerous drugs.

Drink driver's Brisbane booze up busted by Warrego Hwy patrol

Premium Content Subscriber only A big night out drinking in Brisbane until 3am has earned a Kallangur man a fine and time off the road. Joshua John Duncan was pulled over by police on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale and after a RBT, blew over the legal limit. In the Gatton Magistrates Court, prosecutor Bettina Trenear, from Toowoomba Prosecutions said Duncan, 31, appeared tired, nervous and looked worried at the prospect of getting breath tested. Duncan had a passenger in the vehicle when he told police he was returning from a big night at a friend s house in Brisbane and had stopped drinking at 3am.
