Less than half of 'shovel-ready' projects begun by deadline

The Government announced in March it was extending the bright-line test, reducing tax deductions on property investments, and would step up investment in communal infrastructure to support housing developments.
Less than half of the Government’s ‘’shovel-ready’’ infrastructure projects have begun by its first self-imposed deadline, with just 44 per cent of the 150 projects under construction by the end of February.
Last year, the Government announced it would fund 150 ‘’shovel-ready’’ projects, costing $2.6 billion. The projects, including the Naenae pool development, the Eastern Bays Shared Path, and the Wellington District Court, were meant to kick-start the economy with an infrastructure boom as the country recovered from Covid-19. ....

Lower Hutt Mayor Campbell Barry has welcomed todayâs news that resource consent has been granted for the Eastern Bays Shared Path, saying that it is a major milestone for the significant project and the provision of world class infrastructure for all active transport users.
âThis is a major milestone for the project, and is a step forward to improving the current infrastructure. Instead of forcing users to use the road shoulder at certain points, this project will extend the path and provide walkers and cyclists in the Hutt with options to move freely and safely.â ....

Eastern Bays Shared Path closer to construction after project gets resource consent

A cycleway between Lower Hutt’s Days Bay and Pt Howard is pedalling closer to reality after receiving resource consent on Friday.
The Eastern Bays Shared Path is a 4.4 kilometre cycleway that will run along Marine Drive in two sections, between Pt Howard and the northern end of Days Bay, and the southern end of Days Bay to Eastbourne.
It would also link to other paths such as the Remutaka Cycle Trail, Te Aranui o Pōneke (the Great Harbour Way) and Te Ara Tupua – Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One shared path. ....
