Renewed call for Greenock waterfront road alternative to A8

A RENEWED call has been made for a road to be built along the waterfront in Greenock as an alternative to the A8.
Councillor Chris Curley says the recent completion of the £18m flats development by River Clyde Homes at James Watt Dock is a golden opportunity to link up roads between Garvel Island all the way to Kingston Dock.
The SNP man says this would create a vital second artery in and out of the town.
The A8 has become a source of growing frustration in recent years, due to repeated instances of flooding which have blocked it at East Hamilton Street. ....

Eastern Bays Shared Path closer to construction after project gets resource consent

A cycleway between Lower Hutt’s Days Bay and Pt Howard is pedalling closer to reality after receiving resource consent on Friday.
The Eastern Bays Shared Path is a 4.4 kilometre cycleway that will run along Marine Drive in two sections, between Pt Howard and the northern end of Days Bay, and the southern end of Days Bay to Eastbourne.
It would also link to other paths such as the Remutaka Cycle Trail, Te Aranui o Pōneke (the Great Harbour Way) and Te Ara Tupua – Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One shared path. ....

“Completion of this cylcing-walking path, Te Ara Tupua, will plug the biggest gap in Te Aranui o Pōneke,” said GHW chair Graeme Hall. “We have battled decades for this and to see we are now on the downhill slope for construction starting this year is a huge win for the region.”
