Local road, bridge projects get underway

Repairs to the Masters Road Bridge over the Belle River in St. Clair County’s Riley Township will begin today. The St. Clair County Road Commission will be cleaning and re-coating the bridge’s steel beams for approximately the next month. Masters Road between Riley Center and Eagling Roads will be closed to through traffic during the duration of the project.
Work has also begun on a repaving portion of M-46 in Sanilac County. The Michigan Department of Transportation will resurface 1.6 miles of M-46 between Townline Roads and Maple Valley Streets in the City of Sandusky. Expect temporary lane closures and traffic pattern changes through the end of May. ....

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy today announced the funding of more than $4.7 million in grants to develop new uses for used vehicle tires.
When illegal dumping in the environment occurs, scrap tires pose both a fire hazard and a human health risk as a mosquito breeding ground. These grants help reduce or eliminate instances of illegal dumping, support proper collection and handling, and begin to define scrap tires as a commodity, rather than a waste material.
These scrap tire grants support building sustainable markets for recycled tire materials in Michigan. Grants have traditionally included support for essential equipment and materials that aid in the establishment of new markets, including various manufacturing processes, implementation and testing of paving materials, energy generation, and other innovative approaches. ....

Bridge work, paving projects get underway Monday

Expect to see a lot of orange construction barrels across the Blue Water Area starting Monday.
A $1.3 million dollar rehab project begins Monday on the M-136 bridge over the Black River near Avoca. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, traffic will be maintained with a temporary signal during and the bridge will be closed in each direction for a pair of weekends later next month. The project is expected to be completed in August.
A $750,000 resurfacing project will begin Monday on Lapeer Road between Wadhams and Allen Roads in Kimball Township. The St. Clair County Road Commission has contracted with Boddy Construction for the project which is expected to be completed June 21st. Lapeer Road west of Allen will be open to a single lane of eastbound traffic only through the duration of the project. ....

Road commission: Several projects slated to begin May 3

The St. Clair County Road Commission has several projects slated for next week:
Burtchville Township – There will be intermittent lane closures on Old Lakeshore Road between M-25 and Jeddo Road for chip sealing during the week of 5/3/21.
Burtchville Township – Fisher Road between State and M-25 will be closed for bridge maintenance from 5/3/21 until 6/2/21.
Casco Township – There will be intermittent lane closures on St. Clair Highway between Hessen and Mayer for hot rubber crack-sealing during the week of 5/3/21.
Clay Township – Flamingo Road is limited to one-lane traffic until 7/30/21 for bridge replacement.
Cottrellville Township – Plank Road between King and Marsh will be closed for a crossroad culvert replacement from 5/3/21 until 5/11/21. ....
