A flood warning has been issued through 10am Friday morning for areas of the upper Black River in St. Clair County. According to the St. Clair County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, snow melt has caused localized flooding along the river and it's tributaries leading to road closures. As of Friday afternoon, the St. Clair County Road Commission has closed Arendt Road just south of Jeddo Road, Speaker Road between Kelly and Mason, the intersection of Speaker and Jordan Roads, and Yale Road between Kilgore and Brown Road. The Black River gage at Jeddo is expected to crest at approximately 12 feet this evening. Officials downriver communities, including the City of Port Huron, say they are closely monitoring the conditions. Sand bags have been placed in flood prone areas and ice breaking operations on the St. Clair River could begin as soon as Friday morning. ....
The St. Clair County Road Commission has several projects slated for next week: Burtchville Township – There will be intermittent lane closures on Old Lakeshore Road between M-25 and Jeddo Road for chip sealing during the week of 5/3/21. Burtchville Township – Fisher Road between State and M-25 will be closed for bridge maintenance from 5/3/21 until 6/2/21. Casco Township – There will be intermittent lane closures on St. Clair Highway between Hessen and Mayer for hot rubber crack-sealing during the week of 5/3/21. Clay Township – Flamingo Road is limited to one-lane traffic until 7/30/21 for bridge replacement. Cottrellville Township – Plank Road between King and Marsh will be closed for a crossroad culvert replacement from 5/3/21 until 5/11/21. ....
A final decision concerning a tax abatement proposal between Bastrop County and international renewable energy company RWE Renewables for a planned solar project won’t come until the new year after the Bastrop County Commissioners Court on Monday tabled the proposal. The decision to table a possible tax abatement for RWE, which is proposing to build a $190 million solar project near Rosanky, until the next Commissioners Court meeting on Jan. 11 was a near formality for the court. A tax abatement agreement for the county to review still hasn t been finalized with RWE, despite months of negotiations. Since a final version of the proposed abatement doesn’t exist, Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape said from the start of Monday’s meeting the court didn’t intend to vote on the matter and would be tabling it. ....
