Riley Township woman fined following animal cruelty investigation

A woman from St. Clair County's Riley Township has been convicted on charges of animal cruelty following an investigation last month. According to St. Clair County Animal Control, 30 year old Courtney Larowe is accused of housing two horses in poor living conditions at a home in the 1200 block of Griffin Road. Larowe plead guilty to two counts of animal cruelty last week. She iss forbidden from owning animals for at least five years and had to pay a $800 fine. One of the sick horses found at the farm was euthanized, the other was taken to a non profit animal rescue. Animal control officials urge anyone aware of animal collecting, cruelty, or neglect to report the conditions to 984-3155. ....

PANDORA/GILBOA Pandora-Gilboa Schools received good news Tuesday
night. The renewal levy the district placed on the May 4 special ballot
the only issue before county voters passed.
As a renewal,
residents of the school district won’t see any new tax, which offered
some level of reassurance for district officials. Even so, the levy is
fundamental to the district’s continued financial stability.
“It’s
a large part of our operating income,” District Superintendent Todd
Schmutz said. “It generates roughly $900,000 per year.”
With state support for public education remaining relatively static for years, the dollars generated through the levy are key. ....
