A hail of gunfire left another man dead in the streets of Bessemer Tuesday, the second killing in the city in less than 24 hours.
“It’s another young life gone. I’m pissed at what they’re doing to each other,’ said Bessemer Police Chief Mike Roper. “I’m very emotional right now. I love this city. I’ve been working here 31 years and I’ve never seen this before. Never.”

Two young men killed Tuesday in separate Bessemer shootings have been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the victims as Chase Debore Green and Saveon Th’Marcus Washington. Both were 20.
Washington, of Bessemer, was found unresponsive about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Long 14th Street. Lt. Christian Clemons said he was lying in the roadway when officers got on the scene. He was pronounced dead at 5:51 p.m.
Bessemer police and fire medics were dispatched at 1:18 a.m. Tuesday to the 1500 block of Berkley Alley. When they arrived on the scene, they found an adult male sitting inside a vehicle, unresponsive from a gunshot wound.
Deadly shooting under investigation in Bessemer

A man was found shot to death late Thursday in Bessemer.
Bessemer police and medics responded at 11 p.m. to a report of shots fire and a traffic crash in the area of 10th Avenue and 25th Street North. When they arrived, officers found a broken utility pole and a man unresponsive from a gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:28 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified him as 49-year-old Andrew James Minter.
Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said no vehicle was found. Investigators believe a vehicle fled before officers arrived.
