Family argument in Bessemer leaves father shot, son in custody

A family argument in Bessemer left one man shot and another in police custody.
The shooting happened at 10 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 2600 block of Granville Avenue. Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said an argument between a father and son turned violent when a 29-year-old man shot his 62-year-old father.
The father sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he was treated and released. The son remains in custody while police interview witnesses. No charges have yet been filed.

A man was shot to death Tuesday night at a Bessemer home.
The shooting happened about 9 p.m. at 1312 Fairfax Avenue. Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons confirmed one adult male was pronounced dead on the scene.
Details are limited and no arrests have been made. Authorities on Wednesday identified the victim as Dusharme Mandell Jones. He was 24 and lived at the home.
Police have roped off the house, which is just behind the Circle K. There are five evidence markers at the foot of the steps that lead to the front door.
Pedestrian struck, killed on I-59/20 in Bessemer

A pedestrian was killed Monday morning on Interstate 59/20 in Bessemer.
The crash happened at 6:13 a.m. Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said the victim was on the northbound on-ramp at the Alabama Adventure Parkway when the wreck happened.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. He has not yet been identified.
The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Boyfriend charged in killing of Tiffany Osborne whose body was found under a mattress

The boyfriend of a Midfield woman whose decomposing body was found under an old mattress in Bessemer is now charged in her death.
Bessemer and Midfield police on Thursday announced that Cedric Earl Watts Jr., 36, is charged with murder in the death of Tiffany Osborne. The 30-year-old mother vanished Feb. 17 and her remains were discovered in April in an industrial area of off Lakeshore Parkway.
Watts has been in the Jefferson County Jail since Nov. 9 on an unrelated probation violation charge. He will now be held without bond in Osborne’s death.
