Arianna Strand and mother Laurie, of Bristol, prepare to fly a rescued brown pelican from Meriden Markham Airport to Jupiter, Florida, Thursday morning. The pelican was rescued from an Essex cove last week. The Vans RV-12 Spirit of Meriden Club aircraft was built by Wilcox Technical High School students and EAA Chapter 27 members. Update on Brown Pelican Rescue in Essex

The Brown Pelican that was rescued in dire condition from the icy Connecticut River in Essex yesterday is doing surprisingly well today and seems as if it will survive.
Christine Cummings, co-founder A Place Called Hope, the raptor rehabilitation center in Killingworth that has been treating the bird since yesterday afternoon, said the pelican has been taking fluids and eating a specially-prepared fish slurry.
“We’re bouncing this bird back,” she said on the phone this morning, with obvious happiness. “It was so close to dead on admission. But he is bouncing back and has returned to a feisty mannerism. I’m very surprised.” ....

Online charity auction in aid of Lancashire charity could turn your pet into an artist s model
A Lancashire woman is offering people the unique chance to have a ceramic made of their pet to raise money for sight loss charity Galloway’s.

Christine Cummings, of Holmeswood, near Rufford, will auction the prize, worth £250, this Friday evening (January 29) on Facebook, with all proceeds going towards supporting blind and partially sighted people.
The 52-year-old, who runs her own business Christine Cummings Ceramics, will also open the bidding for a ceramic pig, which would normally sell at £175 and a painting, valued at £150. ....
