Court tosses lawsuits against store in Texas church killing June 26, 2021 at 3:32 pm
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) The Texas Supreme Court says survivors and relatives of those killed in a 2017 mass killing at a church can’t sue a sporting goods chain for selling the gunman the rifle used in the attack.
The court on Friday threw out four lawsuits against Academy Sports and Outdoors that alleged a San Antonio-area store negligently sold the gun to Devin Kelley in 2016.
Kelley killed more than two dozen people when he opened fire at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs. The 26-year-old then killed himself during a chase after the shooting.

Going into a record heat wave this weekend, local utilities companies do not anticipate seeing any heat-related power problems, like blackouts or brownouts.
These power outages can occur during extreme heat events, when a power system gets overwhelmed by air conditioner usage, and when transmission lines sag as they overheat.
While Washington has an unofficial reputation as the state where people don’t own air conditioners because we don’t need them for most of the year! Puget Sound Energy says with the hot summers of recent years, more and more people are getting on the AC train.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) With no progress toward ending the 10-year Syrian conflict, the U.N. special envoy for Syria called Friday for new international talks on concrete steps like exchanging prisoners and a nationwide cease-fire that the government and opposition could agree on as initial steps to give impetus to a political solution.
