Two male subjects were shot at a residence near the border of the Graham city limits in Young County Saturday afternoon on Cliff Drive. The dispatch call came around 12:30 p.m., according to the Young County blotter, for a medical emergency on Cliff Drive regarding a shooting. Young County/Graham EMS, Graham Police Department, Graham Fire Department and the Young County Sheriff’s Office responded. According to GPD Police Chief Brent Bullock, GPD officers responded first due to the location and knew the incident occurred in the county. Upon YCSO deputies arriving on the scene, the GPD officers turned over the incident to them and left due it being out of their jurisdiction. ....
A six-year-old Graham child is recovering from injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Kentucky St. in Graham Wednesday. Graham Police Department responded to a vehicle versus bicycle wreck Wednesday, March 31, in the 800 block of Kentucky St. Upon arrival and investigation, GPD officers learned a six-year-old male child had ridden into the street on a Hyper 350 electric bike which resembles a small dirt bike. As the child crossed the road from one residence drive to another, he was struck by a vehicle driven by Iris Castro Martinez, 23, of Graham. According to GPD, the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license and was issued a citation for not having a valid license. GPD reported that the driver complied with the requirements of the law after the wreck occurred. GPD responded at 8:06 p.m. to the incident and according to department, the sun began to set at 7:54 p.m. ....
A controversial hire by Graham police has resulted in a pair of civil rights complaints lodged against the department. The Rev. Curtis Gatewood, the founder of the Stop Killing Us Solutions Campaign run by an Alamance County-based nonprofit, this week filed complaints with state Attorney General Josh Stein and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The complaints called on them to investigate the hiring of Doug Strader by Graham police. Gatewood s complaint noted his belief that hiring Strader puts members of the community in danger. While a member of the Greensboro Police Department, Strader was one of the officers involved in a 2018 incident in which a man died while under police custody. A controversial restraining method is alleged to have contributed to his death. In September, Greensboro officials formally terminated Strader for having fired his weapon at a car fleeing the scene of a crime at the corner of South Elm and Washington Streets. Graham p ....

Strader was fired in September from the Greensboro Police Department after he was identified as one of several officers who fired shots at a car fleeing a crime scene. Greensboro officials let Strader go for what they described as unnecessary use of deadly force. Protestors at Saturday s rally also emphasized another incident in 2018 in which Strader was one of several officers associated with the hog-tying of a suspect who later died. ....
