Friday, Collins claimed the boys Class 3A long jump crown with a leap of 23 feet and three-quarters inches. Thursday, Collins won the 3A high jump title clearing 6 feet 9 inches. His sister, Keely Collins, took second in the girls 3A high jump as a freshman. Charles City Senior Kiki Connell was the state runner-up in the girls 3A 3000 meters and also placed third in the 1500 meters and 4th in the 800 meters. ....

(WAFB) - Four LSU gymnasts combined to earn eight Womenâs Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) All-America honors after top-eight finishes at NCAA Championships on Friday, April 16. A gymnast earns All-America honors if they finish in the top-eight in the rankings of either semifinal. For LSU Haleigh Bryant, Oliva Dunne, Kiya Johnson and Alyona Shchennikova combined to earn those All-American honors. The school now has earned 282 regular season and meet honors in school history. ....

(WAFB) - The LSU Tigers got off to a great start in the NCAA Championships Semifinal II round between Oklahoma, Utah and Alabama. LSU led after the first two rotations at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. LSU started the meet out on the floor where they finished the regular season ranked No. 2. They scored a lights out 49.500 on floor. Christian Desiderio got things started with a 9.90. Alyona Shchennikova followed with a 9.8875 and Sierra Ballard and Sarah Edwards went 9.90. Johnson anchored the opening rotation with a 9.9125 to give the Tigers a lead after one. ....
Florida gymnastics seeks Four on the Floor berth at NCAA Championships Share this story The last four years have been a roller-coaster ride for Florida Gators gymnastics in postseason competition. In 2018, Florida headed to the NCAA Championships as the No. 5 team and finished third behind UCLA and Oklahoma. In 2019, the Gators went into NCAA Regionals ranked No. 4 in the country, but fell to Oregon State at the Corvallis Regional, missing a chance to make nationals after having to count a fall on beam. In 2020, Florida showed consistency and earned high scores all season long, looking like the strongest contender to upset No. 1 Oklahoma for the NCAA title when the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

While there might be a battle over the second spot, the top seed is supposed to glide through with minimal difficulty. “Supposed to” is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Instead, LSU found itself in dogfights on consecutive days simply to make it to nationals. The second day of the regional was intense that four of the top eight scores in the nation all occurred in Salt Lake City. Every team performed well enough to advance, and it was a cruel reality that only two could. ....
