Shooting death of Riviera Beach boy, 7, has residents speaking out

RIVIERA BEACH – For Glenda Neal, the murder of a 7-year-old boy Wednesday morning in Riviera Beach brought back painful memories. Neal, whose 28-year-old son, Tommy Neal Jr., was killed in a January 2019 shooting just outside the city limit, said Wednesday s killing occurred only a few blocks from her home.  On Friday evening, she joined other families affected by gun violence for a community outreach event at Wells Recreation Center. Twenty-six Crime Stoppers posters displaying the names and faces of past victims of unsolved homicide cases in the city adorned the fence of a nearby recreation field.   Neal said she was lying in bed watching her security cameras early Wednesday when she noticed several emergency vehicles pass by her home. She later learned of the 7-year-old s murder.

Captain Hosa: Celebrating an uncommon trailblazer at 63- Vanguard News

By Patrick Ochoga & Adeniyi Ifetayo To grow older is truly a gift. It is a gift of time. When the psalmists said God knows every day that is ordained for us when not one of them existed (Psalm 139), it means God has a purpose, and it is our gift to God to find that purpose and to fulfil it, even if we are into our eighth decade of life or beyond. Thus there cannot possibly be too many celebrations for this man, who deserves to live up to a thousand years should he wish God, who has watched him transmuted all these years to a fountain of wisdom, blessing to his people and gift to humanity, to preserve him.

Christmas Tree Drop-Off Sites

Several Christmas tree drop-off sites are being set up throughout Greater Saint John. City spokesperson Nathalie Logan said six sites will be open throughout the city between Jan. 1 and 12. They include the Charles Gorman Arena on University Avenue; the Peter Murray Arena on Dever Road; the Hilton Belyea area on Lowell Street; the Forest Hills Ball Field on Westmorland Road; between 30 and 38 Taylor Avenue in Crescent Valley; and at the Old Sugar Refinery site, located at the end of Charlotte Street and Vulcan Street. “Take off all your decorations and lights and trimmings,” said Logan. “Once that’s all set, you can drive it down to your closest location and look for the designated drop-off area, it will be clearly marked in each location.”
