Annual Click It Or Ticket Campaign Kicks Off in Grand Traverse County

The annual Click it or Ticket campaign kicked off Monday, and runs through June 6.
This means more patrol cars will be out conducting traffic stops.
Lt. Brian Giddis tells 9&10 News that the campaign is meant to bring awareness to the importance of seatbelts, not just to pull more people over.
“The aim is not to just go out and write tickets,” said Lt. Giddis. “It’s to raise awareness for people to take that extra second before they put it in drive to go ahead and fasten the seatbelt, make (sure) their passengers are buckled up, particularly children.” ....

Orchard State Park Building Rock Barrier To Fight Erosion

Five months after they successfully moved a historical building from the shoreline to a new location on the property, Orchard State Park is building a rock barrier along Lake Michigan.
The wall is currently in week three of the build. Once completed, the wall will help prevent the land from eroding away, which will allow campers to continue to have the ability to go down their stairs to the beach edge on Lake Michigan.
After extending the wall a bit, Orchard State Park Manager Doug Barry tells 9&10 News the wall will even save the park money.
“We have extended a little bit farther now and so it’s taking a little longer but we think it is a much better fit and it is actually going to save us money because we were going to have to re-do all our sewer system and everything,” said Barry. “Now by protecting the shoreline, we won’t have to do that.” ....

10 Digit Dialing Soon Required For All Calls Starting Oct. 24th

In preparation for the roll out of the new 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, making phone calls will be a bit different for people with 616, 810,906, and 989 area codes.
Starting Oct. 24, you’ll need to include area codes with any phone number to make a call.
The City of Mt. Pleasant wants people to remember to reprogram devices such as life lines and security alarms to make calls with the ten digit number instead of a seven digit number.
“We don’t realize how many things we already have pre-programmed,” said Darcy Orlik, Director of Public Relations for the City of Mt. Pleasant. “Alarm systems, internet dial up numbers and life safety systems or medical monitoring devices. All of those need to be checked from now until October 24th.” ....

Parkdale Auto Sales and Services Donates To Manistee County Child Advocacy Center

Parkdale Auto Sales and Services in Manistee is helping make a difference for area kids.
In light of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, they chose the Manistee County Child’s Advocacy Center as this month’s recipients.
A total of $5,100 was donated to the Advocacy Center between a raffle and $100 for every car sold.
Megan McCarthy, Executive Director of the Advocacy Center, tells 9&10 News that it was great to see the community putting effort to help kids in need.
“It was exciting for our entire team to see this donation kind of build and build over the course of this month and just to really see the different ways business and individuals are standing up for kids during this time of crisis,” said McCarthy. ....
