Picture for representational purpose only. GHAZIABAD: Incidents of theft are on the rise in the areas under the jurisdiction of almost all police stations in Ghaziabad so far this year. According to Ghaziabad police data, a total of 1,284 FIRs of theft have been lodged in the district from January 1 to June 30 this year, a spike of nearly 19% compared to the corresponding period in 2020, when 1,082 cases were filed. Most of the theft cases registered this year (977) are vehicle thefts. The data reveals that most vehicle thefts have been reported in Kavi Nagar (139), followed by Indirapuram (115) and Sahibabad (95). The most burglaries have occurred in Sahibabad (41), followed by Indirapuram (35).

The three accused entered the house posing as courier agents and took the family hostage at gunpoint. The house belongs to Vikas Kumar, a dry fruit seller. At the time of incident, he had gone to attend a marriage function in Delhi and his younger brother Ashutosh, his mother and the accountant from his office were present in the house. The accused fled with cash worth Rs 1 lakh and valuables of over Rs 5 lakh. Ashutosh told TOI, “Around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, one of the accused rang the doorbell and told me that there is a courier in the name of my brother. When I opened the gate, he barged into the house along with two other masked men. They took us at gunpoint, tied our hands and legs with ropes and locked us in a room. CCTV footage shows the accused men in front of the house GHAZIABAD: A robbery attempt was reported at a restaurant owner’s house in Aditya World City of Kavi Nagar area on Monday. The accused duo allegedly entered the house posing as insurance agents. According to police, the house belongs to Tarun Verma, who owns a restaurant in Ghaziabad. The robbers allegedly held Tarun’s mother at knifepoint and when he tried to help her, one of the men attacked him with a knife, police said. The robbers fled the spot when Tarun’s mother raised the alarm. According to the complainant, he was in his room around 2.30pm when two people came and knocked on their gate. Uma (62), Tarun’s mother, opened the door and the two accused men introduced themselves as insurance agents.
