Ghaziabad: A 22-year old man on Saturday drowned in a pond at Mandola village of Tronica City after he slipped and fell into it. This comes days after two brothers, aged 20 and 17, drowned in the same pond.
In the past, there have been several incidents of drowning in the Loni area. Residents said despite such frequent accidents, the owner of the pond has failed to put up a barbed wire or fence around the banks. The victim has been identified as Govinda, a resident of Mandola. He was passing by the pond when he slipped and fell into it. Villagers rushed to help but he had drowned by the time. Police said that his body was later fished out.

GHAZIABAD: Incidents of theft are on the rise in the areas under the jurisdiction of almost all police stations in Ghaziabad so far this year. According to Ghaziabad police data, a total of 1,284 FIRs of theft have been lodged in the district from January 1 to June 30 this year, a spike of nearly 19% compared to the corresponding period in 2020, when 1,082 cases were filed.
Most of the theft cases registered this year (977) are vehicle thefts. The data reveals that most vehicle thefts have been reported in Kavi Nagar (139), followed by Indirapuram (115) and Sahibabad (95). The most burglaries have occurred in Sahibabad (41), followed by Indirapuram (35).

On Wednesday, India reported nearly 4.13 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases across the country, and there were 3,980 Covid-related deaths reported officially. The positivity rate stood at 24.4 per cent, meaning that out of 100 tests conducted, 24.4 cases were reported as Covid positive. As of now, there are roughly 35.7 lakh active cases pending. This, at a time, when testing in India has dropped to 15.4 lakh, down from 16.6 lakh tests done on the previous day.
The Centre on Wednesday said the UK variant of Coronavirus is declining in proportion across India, but the double mutant variant, found in Maharashtra, is the main cause for the current surge in Covid-19 cases.
