Domain Companies officials will meet with neighbors Friday, May 31, to explain a zoning map amendment for their South Market District properties including The Standard, The Beacon, The Paramount, and a 36,000-square-foot surface parking lot. They are asking to change the zoning from CBD -5 to CBD-1, which would allow for increased commercial use, including timeshares. Domain liaison Christian Brierre says the company is seeking the amendment “solely for the purpose of our retail spaces” and that The Paramount and The Beacon will “continue to be market-leading multifamily apartment products.”
Some neighbors wonder if Domain or a future owner could embrace timeshare as the highest and best use for those properties. Already, The Saratoga, the Maritime and 144 Elks Place are being redeveloped as timeshare or extended-stay properties. Report: Downtown Salt Lake headed for growth despite losing millions in vistor spending from COVID-19


SALT LAKE CITY Despite setbacks including a devastating windstorm, an earthquake and a pandemic – downtown Salt Lake City continues to grow, according to data released by the Downtown Alliance Tuesday in its 2020 State of Downtown report.
Salt Lake City is well-positioned among western U.S. cities to attract talent, employers and capital, Kim Abrams, a vice president at Goldman Sachs, said during the online event broadcast from the Capitol Theatre.
The report notes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is not fully known yet and therefore isn t fully represented in the data.
We ve all obviously felt the impact of the pandemic, but a few industries were hit hardest, said Ty Burrell, Modern Family actor and local bar owner. While many industries based downtown suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants and bars faced the brunt of it, Burrell said. ....

Seven sales in the $10 to $30 million range plus one just outside of it, at $32 million combined for a total weekly volume of $143 million. That’s a good deal more than the $81 million across four sales the week before.
