The Odeon, tallest building in last 3 decades, opens to residents

A 30-story apartment tower said to be the tallest building to be constructed in New Orleans in the last 30 years has opened its doors to residents.
“The Odeon” is the latest to join South Market, the mixed-use neighborhood that has been developed over the past few years by The Domain Companies.
The 414,000-square-foot apartment tower, located at the corner of Loyola Avenue and Girod Street, features 271 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom market-rate units, 200 parking spaces and 12,000 square feet of retail space. There are 30,000 square feet of amenities such as a pool deck and outdoor lounge with fenced dog run, furnished guest suites, a fitness center and an art collection. ....

‘Streatery’ pilot launched in South Market neighborhood
New Orleans is testing whether closing a downtown street to traffic will help boost business for restaurants located there.
The “Streatery Pilot” closed the lakebound side of Girod Street between South Rampart Street and O’Keefe Avenue beginning Dec. 15. It will remain closed until Jan. 2, 2021.
Businesses alongside this stretch of Girod Street will be able to expand operations into the roadway during that time. A news release says no parking, loading zones or residential access points will be affected.

The pilot program’s partners include South Market developers The Domain Companies and the Downtown Development District, a news release said. ....
