The Armstrong County Commissioners are donating $15,000 of the $100,000-plus needed to pay to open five locks on the Allegheny River in Armstrong County for recreational boaters on summer weekends.
The Allegheny River Development Corp., a nonprofit group of boaters and river supporters, contracts with the U.S. Army Corps to open five locks in Armstrong County for recreational boating on weekends in the summer.
In the last decade, the Corps cut hours at Lock 5, Buffalo Township, and closed Locks 6 through 9, from South Buffalo to Madison Township, to recreational boats.

New pipes for drainage at the U.S. Amy Corps of Engineers lock and dam at Natrona in Harrison were installed in 2020 to divert drainage that has caused sink holes on the grounds of the Natrona site.

The federal headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released $750,000 in its work plan to the Pittsburgh District to fix sinkholes on the grounds of its Natrona lock and dam on the Allegheny River in Harrison.

A hearse on the way to a funeral had to be towed up a hill after becoming stuck following heavy snow.
Passers-by rescued the vehicle after it became stranded on its way to Rotherham Crematorium in South Yorkshire.
Carole Vernon, who was attending her father s funeral, said residents tried to push the hearse before a passing driver offered to tow it. There was a chance Dad s funeral wouldn t have taken place if it weren t for their help, she said.
