On this day 150 years ago, the seeds were planted for Tauranga Library by three men at the Masonic Hotel who wanted to provide reading material to locals.
There were less than 250 households at the time, road transport was powered by horse or donkey, and the few roads that weren t dirt were made of pipi shell. ....

Bay retailers, and accommodation and hospitality businesses are gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of the year, thanks to a weekend of jazz.
The 58th National Jazz Festival and 43rd National Youth Jazz Competition return on Easter weekend with an impressive and exciting programme of events across Tauranga.
The competition will showcase emerging jazz players talents with 300-plus secondary school students performing at the Baycourt Community & Arts Centre on March 31 and April 1. ....

New Research Finds Elders Living In Fear Of COVID-19


All 26 people who have died in New Zealand
from COVID-19 were older people.
Carole undertook
research into the impact of COVID-19 on Elders from October
to November 2020, finding that while Elders felt safe and
well-informed during the 2020 lockdowns, they are still
afraid to go out, are limiting their lives, and are
experiencing high levels of social disconnectedness and
hardship.
“Elders did so well managing that long
period of social isolation and now there is a challenge to
reconnect,” she says.
